After months of discussion and debate as to how to go about this massive project, we broke ground on the new Jozi Trails Biodiversity Project site. We had input from many community members qualified to give expert advice plant life and steps to replace alien invasive species with endemic. Our target was to return this barren area of Delta Park to its original grassland status.

A plea was made on social media (thank you, Delta Park FaceBook group for always encouraging our initiatives) for volunteers, tools, resources and funds. We weren’t disappointed and we had donations of a wheelbarrow, seed, time and money to start our restoration.

Photos show various alien species to be removed and grassed we needed to identify them.  The most notable feature is the sand and building rubble that needed to be cleared. We made the decision to add compost as the soil had very little nutrients left to support new growth.
